Chicken Chips Chaat: A High-Protein Twist on Classic Chaat
From the HOOKd kitchen
Chicken Chips Chaat
Tangy chutneys, cool curd, sev on top — and the crunch is real chicken.
Now, I want to tell you about the most delightful little mess you'll ever make in your kitchen. You take a pack of HOOKd Chicken Chips, tip it into a bowl, and pile it high with everything you love about a good bhel: tangy chutneys, crunchy onions, a little cool curd, and a shower of sev on top.
It's chaat, but with a twist. Instead of papdi or puffed rice, the crunch comes from real chicken. And it takes about five minutes. Truly, five.
What you'll need
For one happy bowl
- 1 pack of HOOKd Chicken Chips (Tandoori Masala for heat, Classic for a milder bowl)
- 2 tablespoons thick curd, whisked with a pinch of salt and sugar
- 1 tablespoon green chutney
- 1 tablespoon sweet tamarind chutney
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small tomato, finely chopped
- A spoonful of boiled sweet corn
- A little chopped capsicum
- A pinch of chaat masala and red chilli powder
- A squeeze of lemon
- A handful of sev and some fresh coriander
Let's make it
First, the base
Open your pack of chips and tip them straight into a bowl. Break a few in half so there are nooks and crannies for everything to settle into, but keep most of them whole. You want crunch in every spoonful.
Next, the fresh bits
Scatter the onion, tomato, corn, and capsicum over the chips. Be generous. This is not the moment for restraint.
Now, the chutneys
Drizzle the green chutney, then the sweet tamarind chutney, in little zigzags all over. Then spoon the whisked curd on top. Oh, it looks lovely already, doesn't it?
Then, the spices
Sprinkle over the chaat masala and chilli powder, and add a good squeeze of lemon.
Finally, the crown
Finish with a big handful of sev and a little coriander. Grab a spoon and eat it straight away.
A few little secrets
-
1
Assemble it only when you're ready to eat. Chaat waits for no one, and the chips taste best while they still have their crunch under all those chutneys.
-
2
Feeding a crowd? Set out the chips and toppings separately and let everyone build their own bowl. Great fun — and people always come back for seconds.
-
3
Clever trick: skip the bowl. Open the pack, add toppings straight in, give it a gentle shake, and eat it right out of the bag. No washing up — perfect for a picnic or match night.
Now go on, make yourself a bowl. And if it gets a bit messy, well, that's exactly how chaat is meant to be.
Bon appétit!
